India Doesn't Deserve Aamir Khan: Criticisms of Him Are Ridiculous

India doesn't deserve Aamir Khan. They keep proving that over and over again. Sure, Aamir courts controversy and will sometimes make himself a lightning rod for the inevitable controversies but, unlike fellow Khan, Salman, these controversies have been in the spirit of creating an open discussion about the state of Indian society for everyone, not just for Aamir Khan. Wake up, India and know the quality of the man and actor you have.

Proof of Aamir's quality? Look no further than the recent Sunny Leone/Bhupendra Chaubey interview controversy. Throughout the interview, Chaubey badgered Leone about her porn star past, which culminated in the question, "Given your past, do you think a big star like Aamir Khan would ever work with you?" Obviously, Leone felt he wouldn't and that she would still be a big fan of his. To wit, Aamir said, "Not so fast." This via NDTV Movies, "When I saw the interview, I was hurt. I felt really bad. I think if there is a good script and nice character, then I don't have any problem working with her," Aamir told the press on Monday while celebrating the 10th anniversary of his film Rang De Basanti. I have nothing to do with her personal life. She is a women and I respect her. I seriously would like to work with her. I hope that she would also like to work with me,"

However, instead of finding the good, certain segments of the Indian population continue to rag on Aamir. Speaking at the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Rang de Basanti in Mumbai, Aamir sought to further clarify his intolerance statements that had rubbed everyone the wrong way. He pledged his love for his country, noting, via Hindustan Times, " I was born here and I will die here. I have never thought of leaving India and will never take such a step. I never said India is intolerant or I want to leave the country... these two things have been said to everyone. So, obviously, people will get hurt and I understand their emotions. I am not surprised they are angry with me. But, there is no truth to this all."

The backlash was inevitable. Twitter was ablaze. A lot of which were accusing Aamir of trying to save his movie coming out later this year from the same fate that Shah Rukh Khan's Diswale did. Khan also spoke out about intolerance in India.
