'Wicked' Announces Carrie St. Louis as New Glinda and More as Part of New Cast Change

Beginning Tuesday, February 2, Rock of Ages' Carrie St. Louis will don the role of Glinda in the three-time Tony Award-winning musical, Wicked. The long-running Broadway production of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre will also see Peter Scolari (Bosom Buddies and Bronx Bombers) assume the role of the Wizard.

Also a part of the cast change is Dawn Cantwell of The Last Ship, who will take on the role of Nessarose and Michael Genet of A Few Good Men, who will play Dr. Dillamond with Zachary Noah Piser performing opposite Genet as Boq.

Later in the month, on Feb. 16, two-time Tony winner Judy Kaye from Cinderella will step into the role of Madame Morrible, succeeding Kathy Fitzgerald, who will don the title from Feb. 2-14.

If you aren't in the know, Wicked is based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire. The story is set in the land of Oz and is a prequel to the famous The Wizard of Oz tale. In this incarnation, the two youngsters Glinda and Elphaba are represented in the time before they became the Good and Bad Witches of Oz.

Respectively, Glinda is the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West. Though misunderstood, Elphaba shows that her turn to evil was a matter of circumstance and upbringing--possibly even a complete misunderstanding.

The show features hit numbers like "Popular," "For Good" and the iconic showtopper "Defying Gravity."

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, the new cast should be a breath of fresh air to the still-popular show. Former Elphaba interpreters include the massively talented Idina Menzel, who sang on the recorded soundtrack for the show.

Nonetheless, in the meantime, preview the big song below as you await the change in cast set for February.
