Carolina Panthers: 5 Biggest Disappointing Players in 2015 NFL Season

The Carolina Panthers are set to face off against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday. While that is obviously huge for them, five players have to be picked to be the biggest disappointing players throughout the 2015 NFL season.

1. Kelvin Benjamin, Wide Receiver

Obviously it wasn't anything that Kelvin Benjamin did that was disappointing, but rather what his health didn't allow him to do. He went down with a season-ending torn ACL ahead of the year and that left the Panthers' offense with a big hole. Benjamin will be back in a big way next season, but for this year he has to be put on this list.

2. Cameron Artis-Payne, Running Back

After selecting him with their fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Cameron Artis-Payne didn't come through with much production. He ended up carrying the football 45 times for 183 yards and a touchdown. Carolina was expecting him to play a much bigger role, but obviously that wasn't the case and he belongs here in these rankings.

3. Charles Johnson, Defensive End

Charles Johnson was an incredibly big disappointment for the Panthers this season. He was expected to have a big year once again and be a leader for the Carolina defense, but ended up playing in just nine games and recording a sack and 12 tackles. That was not the type of year that he was expecting to have and the Panthers can only hope that he will bounce back strong next year.

4. Devin Funchess, Wide Receiver

Rookie wide receiver Devin Funchess couldn't have asked for an easier way into a big role on a Super Bowl caliber team. When Benjamin went down with a torn ACL, he was immediately shoved into major playing time. Unfortunately, Funchess ended up catching just 31 passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns and definitely lands on this list.

5. Shaq Thompson, Linebacker

Yet another rookie to make this list is Shaq Thompson, although he didn't disappoint all that much. He ended up compiling 50 tackles and a sack on the season. Carolina is without question expecting a lot more from Thompson next season, but this year he just didn't quite live up to the hype that he had.
