NBC Boss Talks Canceled Neil Patrick Harris Show ‘Best time Ever’ & Future of Live TV

In recent years, NBC has brought live TV back with special events like The Sound of Music Live, Peter Pan Live, The Wiz Live and regular series like Undateable (Season 3) and Neil Patrick Harris’ Best Time Ever. Now, NBC boss Robert Greenblatt is opening up about why Neil Patrick Harris’ variety show was unfortunately canceled and the future of live TV.

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt recently spoke to Adweek.com about Neil Patrick Harris’ not canceled show, Best Time Ever, and the future of live TV on the network:

“The live thing shouldn't be the tail that wags the dog. If that's the best way to do it, then it should be live. Best Time Ever did relatively well, but we just decided that the format wasn't the best format as it developed. I love Neil and he was such a trouper. We could have done that show not live, and probably put together a better show that was cleaner and crisper, but he really wanted to do the high-wire act of live. And we thought, OK, that's how they do it in the U.K.”
