'The Walking Dead' - Is Daryl Alive? Norman Reedus Says Fans Should be Worried (SPOILERS)

Although the season finale for The Walking Dead airs next weekend, the March 27 episode may have caused a few panic attacks for fans of the hit show. It ended with a bloody cliffhanger where Daryl [Normal Reedus] was shockingly shot by Dwight [Austin Amelio] point blank and fans have no idea if Daryl is dead or alive.

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains plot details for The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 15, titled "East."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reedus said that while he couldn't confirm whether Daryl was dead or not, fans should be "very worried" about the character.

One of the unofficial mottos of TWD fandom is “if Daryl dies, we riot,” so episode writer and showrunner Scott Gimple obviously knew what he was doing when die-hard fans saw Daryl’s blood splatter across the screen at the end of “East.”

“Exactly what you see happens, happens," Reedus revealed to TVLine. "It’s not a trick. It’s definitely Daryl getting shot. I won’t tell you where he’s getting shot. But you see [Dwight] pull the trigger, and that’s Daryl’s blood.”

Tech Insider caught up with the actor behind the double-crossing Savior, Amelio, to get his take on what happened between Dwight and Daryl in those final seconds.

“He doesn’t have an intention on killing him,” he explained. “He’s been through a rough patch and I think he wants to show that he means business and he knows that by shooting [Daryl] he gets his point across. I could have gone for the head. I didn’t. I went for the right shoulder. He’s not going to die. He’ll be okay.”

Amelio revealed a secret that the last line "You’ll be all right” was actually added later by Gimple so that viewers wouldn’t hate Dwight as much.

“I kind of hope people miss that line. I want the shock factor to be there,” he said. “It’s definitely going to be there. I know, but some people are such fans that they interpret everything and try and find every clue and I’m like, ‘You know, if they miss the line, that’s all right.’ If I’m going to be hated, I want to be really, really, really hated. I don’t want to be half hated, I want to be hated."
