Vote Now for the 2014 BBC Music Magazine Awards!

BBC Music Magazine has opened the voting process for its 2014 awards. These awards are largely decided by public vote and, as ever, some of the artists and record labels concerned are engaged in concerted lobbying campaigns.

But there are some fine recordings among the nominations. Riccardo Chailly's Brahms symphonies cycle (one of at least three released in 2013, alongside cycles conducted by Valery Gergiev and an ongoing one from John Axelrod) with the Leipzig Gewandhaus for Decca is there, as is Alisa Weilerstein's Elgar and Carter cello concerti disc, conducted by Daniel Barenboim for the same label.

Isabelle Faust playing the Bartók violin concerti is also in the running, conducted by Daniel Harding for Harmonia Mundi. Virgin Classics stars the Ebene Quartet are back with music by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn.

Paul McCreesh's recording of Britten's War Requiem gets a nod as well, for Signum.

Some less-well-known artists are in the list. Notably Frank Shipway conducting Strauss orchestral works with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra (BIS), and (arguably) Christopher Purves singing Handel bass arias for Hyperion.

But there are plenty of star names alongside to keep anyone happy. It's a good list.

Voting can be accessed through the BBC Music Magazine microsite.
