What If: Eric Whitacre Launches Fifth Virtual Choir for 'Paradise Lost' Musical

Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir is back, and this time it's the musical! Whitacre, the American composer who found fame with his uplifting online choral projects--in which strangers from across the world are invited to film themselves taking part in one of his works, and upload the film to be integrated into a digital soundscape on an animated stage--has announced his new project.

This time, he's turning to a number from his musical Paradise Lost. The song is called "What If." And this time Whitacre is putting together a young people's choir. The film will receive its debut as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as a UNICEF event.

Under 18's are invited to submit their entries for The Virtual Youth Choir via ericwhitacre.com.

The deadline is June 8, 2014.

This will be Whitacre's fifth virtual choir. The others have mostly amassed more than a million views each, with the most-watched the first, "Lux Aurumque," currently standing at 4,343,264 views. The composer first caught the ears of the industry with his album for the Hyperion label, Cloudburst. He was subsequently signed to Universal.
