Angelina Jordan Astar Wins 'Norway's Got Talent' with Sultry "Summertime"

Angelina Jordan Astar stood barefoot on a stage strewn with flowers during the finals of Norway's Got Talent on Friday night, and launched into an impressive rendition of George Gershwin's "Summertime."

Once again, the eight-year-old girl channeled Billie Holiday's smoky voice, drawing cheers from the audience. She sang the version of the song made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, taking liberties with the phrases and adding embellishments that showed how far she has come musically since her audition in March.

The little chanteuse held the final note of the song, drawing out the vibrato as long as she could, until the whole room erupted in applause and cheers. At the end of the show, presenter Solveig Kloppen announced that Angelina won first prize, along with 500,000 kroner ($80,000):

Hearing the voice of a seasoned jazz singer coming out of a small Norwegian girl never ceases to amaze listeners, it seems. The video of Angelina's audition for Norway's Got Talent back in March has racked up more than 7 million views so far on YouTube:

Angelina has risen up singing, indeed, and taken to the sky. Although in her innocent white dress, she looks as if she came down from the heavens instead to grace listeners with her otherworldly musical gifts.

Now that she has won Norway's Got Talent, will she follow in the footsteps of child singer Amira, who recently released her first album? It's likely that the world has not heard the last of this amazingly talented young Norwegian girl.
