Michael Shannon, the seasoned actor from "Boardwalk Empire" and "Man of Steel," will make his Broadway return in 'Long Day's Journey Into Night," joining Jessica Lange and Gabriel Byrne on stage, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced on Wednesday.

Danielle Brooks, from the Netflix original drama Orange Is the New Black (OITNB), will star in Broadway's revival of The Color Purple later this year in December. Made famous from her role as beloved inmate Taystee, Brooks will make her Broadway debut in The Color Purple later this year, producers announced Wednesday--according to The Hollywood Reporter. Brooks will join fellow Broadway rookies Jennfier Hudson and Cynthia Erivo in the John Doyle revival of the Broadway classic. THR also states that Brooks will play the role of Sofia (orginally played by Oprah Winfrey in a feature film) and that production plans to open on December 10 at Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Groff, known for his work in 'Spring Awakening' and the television show 'Glee,' will take the stage as King George III after James leaves to star in the Broadway production of 'Something Rotten.'
Everyone’s favorite sponge may be heading to the Great White Way. Nickelodeon has confirmed to 'Entertainment Weekly' that a 'SpongeBob SquarePants' musical is currently in the works. Though the show location has not been announced, it is rumored that Nickelodeon is hoping for a Broadway run. The show is said to feature a mixture of classical and contemporary music, with music from Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Lady Antebellum and John Legend for the score. The production is set to be directed by Tina Landau, who is currently directing the off-broadway show 'Big Love.'

Susan Stroman, known for her Broadway productions including the Tony Award-winning musicals "Crazy for You," "Contact" and "The Producers," directs and choreographs the show.
