There's a new sound emanating out of L.A. these days called West Coast Get Down. These cats don't give a flying fig about genre classifications so it's not unusual to hear the craziest sound coming out of their come'n'go collective. Heretofore, it's been a live phenomenon but as Kamasi Washington's 'The Epic' showed last year, their hip grip is tightening, the scene is set, and now it's time to swallow whole 'Planetary Prince' by Cameron Graves.
Coming or going, LA based saxophonist Kamasi Washington can do no wrong at the moment. One of the hottest names in jazz at the moment, Washington has put together quite a string of commercial and critical successes that have sent his career rocketing into overdrive. Washington brought the buzz .and the jazz recently back to New York City to showcase to the 1400 gathered what it is and, if it's not, why it should be.
Los Angeles native, Kamasi Washington, has been on the up as of late--with features on records from the likes of Stanley Clarke and Kendrick Lamar. With those projects in the can, Kamasi has announced that he will embark on a global tour starting July 30 in Seattle.
