Renowned operatic bass René Pape will return to the Metropolitan Opera--for a solo recital this time--performing the works of Beethoven, Dvořák, Quilter and Mussorgsky at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 28.
Pape, of course, has had some well-received performances at Lincoln Center in recent years: a grand performance alongside Jonas Kaufmann in Faust, as well as sensational roles in Parsifal, Boris Godunov and Tristan und Isolde.
Fans of his husky tone will no doubt revel in the rep Pape (and pianist Camillo Radicke) have chosen for their first Met concert of the 2014-15 season: Beethoven (Gellert Songs), Dvorák (Biblical Songs), Roger Quilter (Shakespeare Songs) and Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death.
Pape, too, will return to the big Met stage this fall in Verdi's Macbeth as Banquo, which features superstar soprano Anna Netrebko as well as Zeljko Lučić and Joseph Calleja--and once more as Sarastro in Julie Taymor's production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
Macbeth will take to the Met September 24 and 27, then on October 3, 8, 11, 15 and 18.
