Bowen Yang will make his Broadway acting debut this September, joining Cole Escola's hit comedy "Oh, Mary!" as the show's title character, Mary Todd Lincoln.

The "Saturday Night Live" alum and "Las Culturistas" host begins performances at the Lyceum Theatre on September 15 for a 12-week engagement running through December 6, producers Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie and Carlee Briglia announced August 4.

Yang succeeds Meg Stalter, who ends her run on September 12. Hannah Solow, a previous Mary Todd Lincoln, will play a single bridge performance on September 13 before Yang takes over.

Yang called the production Escola's "deranged and profound masterpiece," adding that it was "the best Broadway debut" he could have requested.

He'll star opposite continuing cast members Phillip James Brannon as Mary's Husband and Barrett Foa as Mary's Teacher, along with original cast member Tony Macht and Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone.

"Oh, Mary!" reimagines Mary Todd Lincoln as a frustrated, hard-drinking aspiring cabaret star in the weeks before her husband's assassination. The show opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024, becoming the first production in the Lyceum's 121-year history to gross more than $1 million in a single week; it has since broken its own box office record thirteen times and was the first show of the 2024-25 season to recoup its investment.

Directed by 2025 Tony winner Sam Pinkleton, the play won two Tony Awards that year — Best Leading Actor in a Play for Escola and Best Direction of a Play for Pinkleton — along with two Drama League Awards and a Pulitzer Prize finalist nod.

The role has been performed by a rotating group of stars, including Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski and Maya Rudolph.

Yang is a five-time Emmy nominee for his seven seasons on "Saturday Night Live" and received a 2026 Tony nomination as a co-producer of "Titaníque." His other credits include the "Wicked" films, "Fire Island" and "Dicks: The Musical."

The production has released a new block of tickets through July 10, 2027, extending the Broadway run to nearly three years past its 2024 opening. General tickets start at $59, with a digital lottery offering $47 seats and day-of rush tickets available for $43 at the Lyceum box office. Separately, a North American tour launches in Hartford, Connecticut, this September.
