Brooklyn Arts Exchange Accepting Applications for 2015 Upstart Festival

The Brooklyn Arts Exchange is accepting applications for the 2015 Upstart Festival.

The Upstart Festival is looking for new talent in dance, theater and performance works by artists who have less than three years of experience of showing their work in New York City.

The work of those who qualify will be produced as part of a three-day showcase at BAX from Feb. 6 to 8. The showcase will be curated by dance and video artist and former BAX Artist in Residence Jillian Peña and BAX Founding and Executive Director Marya Warshaw.

The criteria to apply is as follows:
• The application must be submitted electronically no later than Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.

• Notifications will be on or before Nov. 3. The application requires a five-minute work sample uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube.

• The sample must be of what the contestant is submitting. Submissions must include title, year created, venue produced/presented in and any funding credits. Sample works can be five minutes long, but the work performed can be up to 12 minutes.

BAX will hold a mandatory roundtable for contestants Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The application deadline is Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.

BAX, founded in 1991, is a community-based performing arts center in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn. The space is dedicated to developing artists from children to professionals, offering a community-accessed space to arts and culture.
