Winter JazzFest Kicks Off At (Le) Poisson Rouge with Blue Note Now!, Kris Davis's Infrasound, Vijay Iyer and More to Follow

The 2015 Winter JazzFest in New York City has been a staple of the musical underbelly of the city for years. From Jan. 8-10, thus, the NYC Winter JazzFest takes over our favorite downtown dwellings like (Le) Poisson Rouge, SubCulture and more.

With over 100 artists from Vijay Iyer to Kris Davis' Infrasound, the festival kicks off at 8 p.m. with Blue Note Now! The concert will highlight Blue Note recording artists and will include performances by pianist Robert Glasper, singer José James, bassist Derrick Hodges and percussionist Kendrick Scott.

Per Downbeat, other highlights include performances by the Dave Douglas Quintet (Jan. 9 at Judson Church); Linda Oh's Sun Pictures (Jan. 9 at Subculture); Bria Skonberg (Jan. 9 at Zinc Bar); David Murray and the Infinity Quartet (Jan. 10 at Le Poisson Rouge); The Cookers (Jan. 9 at Minetta Lane); Ambrose Akinmusire (Jan. 10 at Judson Church) and the Mark Turner Quartet (Jan. 10 at Zinc Bar).

In addition to a most amazing lineup of jazz artists abound, Canadian artist Kris Davis takes to the stage. In an exclusive at Musicworks, the musician talks everything from her son to how she is reinventing the jazz genre, all with Classicalite contributor Kurt Gottschalk.

Check out the full lineup for the festival here and keep up with tickets over at the (L)PR website.
