BBC Launches the 2015 Inspire Young Composers' Competition

The BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition has just been launched. This years winner will have their music performed at the 2015 BBC Proms, their works broadcasted on Radio 3 and received a BBC commission along with mentoring from a professional composer.

The Inspire Young Composers’ Competition is open to all composers ages 12 to 18. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges that will include composers Judith Weir, Anna Meredith, Fraser Trainer and Martin Suckling. This contest offers young composers a chance to have their music played by professional musicians.

Previous winners and highly commended entrants of the Young Composers' Competition include composers Tansy Davies, Alissa Firsova and Toby Young, clarinettist and composer Mark Simpson and conductor and composer Duncan Ward. Last years winner had their works performed by the Aurora Orchestra.

The Young Composers’ Competition was founded in 1988 and is a part of wider program, BBC Proms Inspire Scheme, which nurtures young composers through different workshops and commissions to help develop their skills. In 2014 alone, Inspire worked with over 550 young musicians, commissioned nine new works and performed and broadcast the music of 17 young composers.
