At one point, Aaron Hernandez was Rob Gronkowski's right hand man. Ever since the disgraced Hernandez was forced into retirement, Gronk has been very clear that he doesn't like to talk about the situation. Things got very tense, very quickly in a CBS interview where Dan Dahler adamantly pressed the Hernandez situation. In recent news, Hernandez's fiancée was granted immunity in exchange for her testimony, and it remains to be seen what affect this will have on the case overall.
Before his time as a professional, Hernandez committed to play college ball for the University of Connecticut. Ultimately, though, Aaron played for the University of Florida under Urban Meyer.
During his time there, he stacked up an impressive list of achievements. He led the Gators to a BCS National Championship in 2009, and that same year he was awarded the John Mackey Award.
His consistency and impressive performances earned him a fourth round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2010 NFL Draft. For several years, he and Gronk dominated their tight end slots.
The two got very close, and according to CBS Sports, Rob doesn't falter when it comes to his old friend:
"Rob Gronkowski did an interview [but he] almost didn't stay for the whole thing, threatening to walk out when Dan Dahler tried to turn the subject toward Aaron Hernandez...the moment that quickly got kind of tense. Dahler initially asked Gronk about Hernandez, Rob...said, 'Ahhhh, next question..." [Later] Gronk stood up and started to walk off the set of the interview with the cameras rolling."
Now, the Hernandez case has taken an interesting turn. According to TMZ Sports, his fiancée just testified after being granted immunity:
"Aaron Hernandez's fiancée has been granted immunity in exchange for her testimony in the former NFL star's murder trial...but the extent of her protection is a big question mark. The judge in the Odin Lloyd murder trial just announced an 'endorsement for immunity to Shayanna Jenkins.' In the past, prosecutors have accused Shayanna of disposing of possible evidence at Hernandez's request...after Odin's murder...The judge has sealed the record...so it's unclear how much protection Shayanna will receive in exchange for spilling her guts."
