Lance Armstrong Ordered to Pay $13 Million In Punitive Damages After Drunk Driving Girlfriend Scandal

At one point in time, Lance Armstrong was considered the hero and the face of the sport of cycling. Now, he is considered by many to be the most disgraceful cheater to ever show his face in public. In recent news, Armstrong was ordered by arbitrators to pay back a whopping $13 million to an insurance company. All this took place a few short weeks after it was revealed that Lance let his girlfriend take the blame for a car crash that was his fault.

Lance got his start in athletics at the age of 12 when he finished fourth in the Texas state 1,500-meter freestyle. After that, he pursued a successful career in cycling.

All in all, he had a long list of achievements, including winning the World Championship in 1993, the Clasica de San Sabastian in 1995 and the Tour Dupont in 1995 and 1996.

As most of you know, he made his claim to fame with his seven Tour de France wins between 1995 and 2005. However, it wasn't too long after that it was revealed that Armstrong was a doper and flat out cheat.

According to ABC, Lance is finally paying for his dishonesty:

"Lance Armstrong has been ordered to pay $US10 million ($12.87 million) to a sports insurance company after arbitrators ruled against the disgraced cyclist over bonuses he received during his Tour de France winning streak, the firm said...Dallas-based SCA Promotions had paid $US12 million ($15.45 million) in bonuses to Armstrong but sued to get its money back after the American had admitted to doping...The arbitrators, in a 2-1 ruling...issued the award to SCA after a multi-day hearing during which Armstrong testified."

Since Armstrong's true self was revealed, the controversies haven't stopped coming.

According to Business Insider, he recently tried to let his drunken girlfriend take the blame after he wrecked into several SUV's:

"Armstrong allegedly crashed into two parked vehicles in Colorado on Dec. 29 and left the scene, with his girlfriend initially telling police that she had been behind the wheel, according to an Aspen police report...Armstrong's girlfriend, Anna Hansen, also allegedly lied about whether Armstrong had been drinking...he was cited by Aspen police for failing to report the accident and exceeding safe speed for conditions before those tickets were transferred to Armstrong on Jan. 12."
