Nexus 5X vs Moto X Pure Edition: Which Phone Should You Purchase?

In Google's upcoming September 29th press conference, they are expected to release details on the new Nexus 5X phone. The Moto X Pure is already out. Which new phone should you purchase?

First off, let's talk RAM. The Moto X Pure has 3 gigabytes flowing through it, so there is plenty of power there. The Nexus 5X is a little bit iffy. The rumor mill has long believed that the 5X will have 3 GB of RAM, however, PCWorld reports that Amazon's India site listed the phone for sale a bit earlier than they were supposed to, and the key thing here is that the listing indicated the phone only had 2 GB. It seems that the majority of tech sites believe the phone will have 3 GB, but it might be a good idea to wait and verify that before making a decision.

Screen size is always a consideration when hunting for a new phone. The Nexus 5X probably will have a 5.2 inch and the Moto X Pure has a 5.7 inch screen. If you prefer a larger screen, go with the Moto X Pure. If you have small pockets, the 5X will fit better.

A good thing the Nexus 5X has over the Moto X Pure is the operating system. It's expected that the new Nexus 5X will be operating on the new upcoming Android 6 (Marshmallow) OS. The Moto X Pure has been released with the older Android (Lollipop 5.0).

Next up is processing power. The Moto X Pure is confirmed to have a hexacore 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, so it will be up to anything the average user will need. The Nexus 5X is rumored to have the same chip, but might actually have the newer Snapdragon 820. Details have not been confirmed on that.

If you use your phone for a lot of pictures, the Moto X Pure is going to be the better option for you. With a 21 megapixel camera, it completely beats out the 13 megapixel camera expected to come with the Nexus 5X. Additionally, if you will store a large number of photos on the phone, the Moto X Pure has storage options for up to 64 GB. The Nexus 5X is expected to have 16 or 32 GB. It's not yet known if it will be expandable or not.

When it comes to customization, the Moto X Pure has a strong pull. There are hundreds of possible combinations available just off the website alone. You can adjust the amount of storage you need (16 GB base). You can change the trim, the backing, the front, accents, greetings, engravings, and even order a SIM card for your carrier of choice. No customization options for the Nexus 5X have been leaked, but if it's anything like the other phone expected to be released at the September 29th press event, it's going to be very, very limited.

Overall, unless Android 6 and the (possible) newer processor really change the game that much, buy the Moto X as your new phone. At just under $400, the Moto X is a pretty good buy for a rather capable smart phone, and the Nexus 5X is expected to cost the same. With a much better camera, better memory options, and more custom options to make your phone yours, the Moto X will provide everything you want in your new smart-phone.
