Chicago Bears Rumors: RB Matt Forte Unlikely to Re-Sign with Bears in NFL Free Agency

The Chicago Bears rumors are flying when it comes to impending free agent running back Matt Forte. According to Forte, however, he is unlikely to re-sign with the Bears when NFL Free Agency hits this coming offseason.

He recently shared in an interview that he wants to return to Chicago, but that he is not optimistic that it will happen.

"I mean, I want to return," Forte said. "But if you're saying am I hopeful that I do return? There's not much to hope for right now because like I've said, I talked to (general manager Ryan Pace) earlier and they haven't said anything back. So there's nothing really to hope for."

Early on in the season, Forte said that he was hopefully his strong play would help jump-start negotiations with the Bears. That unfortunately didn't end up happening.

"After the first seven games I think I was top three in rushing and stuff, and still producing," Forte said. "But you look at that and you're like, 'ok, you guys?' But, um, still nothing came from that."

At this point in time, it appears that Jeremy Langford is the future at the running back position for the Bears. He played very well when Forte went down with an injury midway through the season. His play has made Forte's price something that the Bears don't have to spend.

During the 2015 season thus far, Forte has carried the football 190 times for 768 yards and four touchdowns. He also has caught 38 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns this season.

There is no question that he will be a hot commodity in free agency if he does indeed end up leaving the Bears. He is still one of the top two-way running backs in the NFL and there is absolutely no doubt that he has a couple more years playing at an elite level. Chicago may be making a mistake, but saving the money and going with a young back like Langford isn't a bad option either.

Expect to see the Bears move on from Forte this season, but to see many teams show interest in giving him a new deal.

Which team do you think should pursue Forte in NFL Free Agency this coming offseason? Are the Bears making a mistake by moving on from him? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
