New York Philharmonic Premieres 'Beethoven Violin Concerto & Bruckner' Starting Jan. 27

Tomorrow, Jan. 27, Juanjo Mena and the New York Philharmonic begin a four-night engagement of Beethoven's Violin Concerto & Bruckner at David Geffen Hall. Violinist James Ehnes, who's playing of Beethoven's "Mount Everest of violin concertos" has garnered much praise, will be the premiere soloist for each evening.

Beginning at 7:30 pm, David Geffen Hall will host the New York Phil as they lead audience members through a musical vineyard of Beethoven and Bruckner with Ehnes as the evening's performing luthier.

Per the New York Phil website:

"When James Ehnes plays Beethoven's Violin Concerto, 'the Mount Everest of violin concertos,' his playing is 'as creamy as could be. ... I could have listened to the cadenza all day long' (San Diego Reader). One thrilling work follows another: Bruckner's majestic Symphony No. 6, filled with his signature compelling soundscapes."

In addition to the Beethoven-Bruckner recital, the orchestra will be holding an open rehearsal at 9:45 am before the performance with a pre-concert insight to follow. While Ehnes may not be guaranteed to be in attendance during the rehearsal, it's an invitation from the company to preview what's in store for the show prior to the full-blown concert.

The Pre-Concert Insights will be held at the Helen Hull Room prior to each performance with tickets clocking in at $5 each with the promo code PCTCYO.

However, you must provide a valid concert ticket for the same date and program to be granted admission.

A most astounding program by an internationally revered ensemble should be an event capable of making New Yorkers and audience members forget about the slush piles on the city sidewalks.

With that, be sure to purchase your tickets before they go and check out a preview of the New York Phil below.
