It looks like Cat Deeley is going to be able to feed that new baby after all. According to the latest gossip news updates, So You Think You Can Dance has been renewed for a 2016 season with a premiere date set for early May. While it has been rumored for quite some time that the show was due for a change in format, SYTYCD: The Next Generation is going to feature an All-Star element on top of the contestants all being children, ages 8-13.
This week Fox offcially announced that So You Think You Can Dance will get to live on for another season as,SYTYCD: The Next Generation.
Although the news that all the contestants will be children hardly came as a shock, Deadline revealed that this year there is going to be yet at least one more new twist involving All-Star mentorships:
"Auditions begin next month in three cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
"The kids who go through will move to The Academy round where the Top 10 dancers will be selected and partnered permanently with a SYTYCD All-Star.
"The competition will move on to the SYTYCD studio, where the top youngsters will compete each week in a variety of styles, working with choreographers and performing alongside their All-Star partners."
In a recent statement President of Entertainment at Fox, David Madden, expressed his confidence in the format shift's ability to satisfy longtime fans while at the same time brining in first-time viewers (via Variety):
"We are so happy to bring back the award-winning So You Think You Can Dance for a 13th season this summer with a brand-new format.
"The series has captivated its loyal fan base for over a decade, inspiring young dancers across the country and transforming the face of dance in every medium -- and we're so excited to feature a young and talented new group of performers on the series.
For his part, co-creator, executive producer and judge, Nigel Lythgoe, recently revealed that he couldn't be happier with the switch to kid contestants (via Entertainment Tonight):
"Through the Dizzy Feet Foundation, I've had the great privilege of working with incredible young talent who will eventually shape the future of dance in this country.
"By evolving the So You Think You Can Dance format this season, we can showcase the very best junior dancers out there and open up the world of dance to a whole new generation."
