Weekly Reprise: Alfie Boe Exits 'Les Miserables,' Jason Danieley Returns to 'Chicago’

The old theater adage says the show must go on, but that doesn’t mean every actor can. In this issue of the Classicalite Weekly Reprise we are looking at some of the recent cast shake ups on Broadway. Jean Valjean actor Alfie Boe has left Les Miserables to join the cast of Finding Neverland as J.M. Barrie. Boe will be replaced by former Jean Valjean actor and UK Phantom John Owen-Jones. Boe will be replacing Tony Yazbeck. Meanwhile the Kander and Ebb classic, Chicago has a new/old Billy Flynn. Jason Danieley (The Visit, Next to Normal, The Full Monty) returned to the role this past Monday, February 29. replacing Eddie George.

Earlier in the Boe said goodbye to Valjean by tweeting:

“So as my final week as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables approaches, I just want to say. Thank you to everyone who attended my performances and travelled from all corners of the globe to be here with me. My sincere respect and love to you all. Xxx”

In other news. Kelsey Grammer will be extending his run as Captain Hook in Finding Neverland from the March 26 to April 3. Grammer’s replacement has yet to be named.

Forest Whitaker’s Broadway debut in Eugene O'Neill's one act play, Hughie will be coming to a close later this month after totaling 55 performances, including previews.
