‘Little Shop’ Frank Oz Working on New Magic ‘In & Of Itself’ Show with Derek DelGaudio

Frank Oz is getting ready to make magic once more. The Little Shop of Horrors movie director and voice of Yoda is working on all new theatrical production with magician Derek DelGaudio. The new show titled, In & Of Itself, also features original music by, Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO.

Press notes for In & Of Itself describe the show, reading (via Playbill):

“[In & Of Itself is a] metaphoric labyrinth, filled with allegorical illusions and centered around a single paradoxical truth.”

Derek DelGaudio released a statement to the press about the production as Playbill reports:

“Developing this show has been a transformative experience. What began as a deeply personal endeavor has evolved into this remarkable collaboration. I’m looking forward to sharing what we’ve made.”

Oz also commented on the new production, adding:

“I sensed in Derek a pure intent. I loved that he was attempting to do something extraordinary and unexpected. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of. There’s an authenticity to Derek that is rare and integral to his work. In great part, I’m there to keep him honest. Honest to himself. This show has been inside him for a long time and it’s full of beautiful, complex ideas. I wanted to help Derek focus those ideas, shape them and bring them to life on the stage.”

In & Of Itself runs May 3-June 12 at the Geffen Playhouse with an official opening on May 11 at the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater.

Ticket prices between $100 and $150. Tickets can purchased at the Geffen Playhouse box office, or by calling via (310) 208-5454.
