Alan Mingo Jr Steps Into Wayne Brady and Billy Porter ‘Kinky Boots’ Tonight

Recently, Wayne Brady left his leading role of Lola in Broadway’s Kinky Boots, which was originated on Broadway by Billy Porter. Tonight the high heels are being handed over to Alan Mingo Jr. (The Little Mermaid, RENT) Mingo shouldn’t have any problems stepping into the role, having played it on the Toronto stage.

Alan Mingo Jr. has been playing the role of Lola on the Toronto stage since the production began and has been eyeing a Broadway run for three-years now. Tonight, Mingo finally gets his chance.

The original Broadway production of Kinky Boots was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won a six, including Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Original Score Cyndi Lauper, and Best Musical. Billy Porter even beat out co-star Stark Sands for the Best Actor in a Musical Tony.

The Original Broadway Cast recording for Kinky Boots also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2014.

It was recently announced that the Sony Masterworks are producing a live recording of The West End’s Kinky Boots from London's Adelphi Theatre. The Live recording will be available for pre-order on March 11 will be released on April 1.
