After months of speculation and ten years of marriage, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have announced through publicists that they have officially separated. This has lead many to speculate that the couple may soon be divorcing. The duo, both 42, met in 1995 on the set of Rent and continued to work alongside each other in the awarded-winning musical, The Wild Party. Diggs and Menzel were married in 2003. Son Walker, now 4, was born in September, 2009.
Earlier this year, Menzel told People that the marriage wasn't always bliss. The actress spoke about how much work her marriage was:
"We work at it, I'm not going to glamorize it or glorify it--we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate."
Only months ago, Taye Diggs told Us Weekly that they regularly attend counseling, admitting that “we go every once in a while to fine tune.” Though according to sources close to the pair, Diggs is a “party boy”, a “flirt” and “a great father, but a not-so-great husband,” while Menzel really “doesn't like to go out.”
A friend of the couple also told Us Weekly:
“They’ve been growing apart for months.”
Whether due to increasingly conflicting schedules (Menzel has spent the fall working in Washington, D.C.; Diggs has been doing sitcom work in L.A.) or conflicting personalities, one thing is for certain--the break up is official. The power couple that was TAYZEL is no more.
