The still spunky 29-year-old post punk pop star Avril Lavigne is a big believer in something most punks shun, strict rules. Chad Kroeger, the 39-year-old front man from Nickelback, is kept on a very short leash for a rock star in his marriage to the spritely singer, but maybe things are different in Canada.
According to Lavigne, the key to a relationship isn’t trust, but rather ridiculous maniacal adherence to silly rules of her choosing. She explains her marital philosophy to People:
"When you have something special, you can't take it for granted and be careless with it. We want to give it all the care and love and nurturing that we can.”
So just what are these nurturing rules? Namely: do go out without her, don’t drink without her and never be apart.
Avril explained that by keeping her husband miserable, it makes it easier for him to appreciate his time with her at home:
"After our honeymoon, we were like, let's just go home and be married. Really, our vacation is our home."
Of course it is, it's the only place that poor Kroeger can ever get a drink.
What a contrast from the carefree tone of the star just before Kroeger signed his freedom away:
“I just want to make sure I really enjoy this amazing time and I want all the guests who come to have this once in a lifetime experience. I want everyone to say, 'Wow!' and for it to be special for everyone, not just us.'”
If only she wanted her husband to be so happy.
