Everyone has been offering their congratulations to Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts following her announcement that she was gay on Facebook. Now, the rumor mill is working overtime, suggesting that Roberts’ announcement was paving the way to an official engagement to girlfriend Amber Laign.
Celebrating a major milestone in her recovery, Robin Roberts comes out to the world in a thank you to friends and family on Facebook:
“I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”
Amber has been far more than just a girlfriend to Roberts; she also played the role of caretaker to Roberts while she was sick with cancer.
A friend of the couple told Star that Robin would have been doomed without Amber:
“There were days when Robin literally didn’t have the strength to drink a glass of water, and Amber was there for her at Robin’s Manhattan apartment, feeding her ice chips and wiping the perspiration from her forehead...Robin made sure Amber was totally comfortable about becoming a public person. The next step will be the announcement or their engagement--and then a glorious wedding. They’re totally devoted to each other”
Dozens of friends and celebrities have taken to social media to offer their congratulations to Roberts and Laign, but none as notable as Michelle Obama how reached out via Twitter:
“I am so happy for you and Amber. You continue to make us all proud.”
