Classicalite Recording News: Soprano Diana Damrau Releases Personal Favorites on 'Forever' Album (Warner Classics/Erato) Due March 11

With all the Damrau hype circulating her upcoming performance as Amina at The Metropolitan Opera's production of Bellini's La Sonnambula and a one-off (Le) Poisson Rouge show, there must be little time to find a respite from the excitement.

However, the hype machine only builds greater as the coloratura soprano announces an upcoming release via Warner Classics & Erato of Forever, available in the States come Tuesday, March 11.

Including music from Die Fledermaus, Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), South Pacific, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz and three Disney classics: Snow White, Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid, Diana refers to Forever as a very personal disc.

"Every life has its own soundtrack and these are numbers that have had an impact on my life--and no doubt on other people's lives too," she says.

"I have tried to gather together my own memories and the collective memories of my generation. I'm a child of my time...and I'd also like to show the world that opera singers are not confined to one genre."

Agreed, the connection between artist and creation is essential in delivering an affectionate and authentic performance. The letters of past memories can be assembled to write a story through music, and Damrau will surely deliver on a worthwhile release.

Here are the tracks that have inspired Damrau; the collection will definitely prove to be uniquely tailored.
