The History Channel network know that they have found a hit with their Vikings cast and crew; that is why just a few episodes into Season 2 they have already signed on for Season 3 with stars Travis Fimmel and Katheryn Winnick firmly at the helm.
Good news for fans of the History Channel's Vikings series, the invasion isn't over just yet.
History has already ordered ten new episodes for Season 3 from Canadian-Irish co-production companies Canada's Take 5 and Ireland's World 2000.
History EVP and General Manager Dirk Hoogstra heralds Vikings as the breakthrough the network has been struggling towards for years (via HitFix):
"Vikings has taken viewers by storm and has established itself as one of the most compelling, visually stunning dramas on television.
"With its large, passionate and loyal fan base, Vikings has cemented History firmly in the scripted series genre, just as we are the leaders in reality television.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have such an enormously talented cast and crew led by Michael Hirst whose intricately woven storylines vividly brings the unknown, epic world of these Norsemen to life.
"Season three promises to immerse viewers even deeper into the exploits of these fearless warriors who are willing to risk it all for conquest and power."
History are no doubt just as happy with the show's rating as they are crossover breakthrough; according to TVWise, Vikings is now, number one in its time slot:
"The renewal, which comes a mere four episodes into the show's second season, comes after Vikings has been averaging 3.4 million total viewers, 1.7 million Adults 25-54 and 1.5 million Adults 18-49.
"The strong ratings have made the drama the number one show on basic cable in the Thursday 10pm time-slot."
Production is slated to begin outside Dublin this summer in order to make the 2015 scheduled premiere date.
