Let's hope the Oscar winning Hollywood director George Clooney saved up some of his Batman money, because the 53-year-old Monument Men member is being robbed on practically every country in Europe. Not only did Brad Bitt and Angelina Jolie's bestie recently had his palatial villa Oleandra in Laglio on Lake Como, Italy, reportedly robbed some by drunken Romanian drifter, the United Kingdom could be asking for nearly $150K in import taxes on the engagement ring that Danny Ocean gave to his London lawyer girlfriend Amal Alamuddin. But that's the price you pay when you roll through Heathrow International with a $700,000, 7-caret snow-globe on your finger. The bride's parents are traditionally supposed to pay for the wedding; perhaps Clooney can talk his fiancé's father into picking up this jaw-dropping bill, as well.
Lucky in love, unlucky in life; or so it seems to be going for acclaimed Hollywood icon George Clooney now that he's found love in former United Nations human rights advisor Amal Alamuddin.
Even though George's mansion on bucolic Lake Como, Italy was minding its own business the other week, that wasn't good enough for one would be wino/cat burglar, who just had to start a problem reports the NY Daily News:
"A 29-year-old Romanian man trespassed on the grounds of Villa Oleandra, the movie star's estate on the shores of Lake Como. After taking a bottle of wine he found in an alcove on the property, he attempted to break into Clooney's home.
"When the police arrived, he allegedly threatened them with the wine bottle, but was eventually subdued and apprehended."
According to the Daily Mail the government of the United Kingdom wants their 2.5 percent cut of every diamond engagement ring that enters the empire that costs more than £390 (655.59 USD), especially if it enters through Heathrow International Airport (via Belfast Telegraph):
"However Mr. Clooney may now face a £93,577 [$157303] bill from the UK taxman, after it emerged the British lawyer passed through customs at Heathrow on May 13 and may not have paid the relevant import tax."
Seems like the simple solution would be to just leave the ring at their home in California when their traveling to any third world countries.
