Struggling Tampa Bay Rays Worst Record, Manager Joe Maddon Hires Seminole Medicine Man

The struggling Tampa Bay Rays have the worst record in baseball. Things have gotten so bad that they have hired a Seminole medicine man. Rays manager Joe Maddon asked Bobby "The Rainmaker" Henry to come and bless the stadium in hopes of changing their luck. So far it hasn't worked but faith requires patience. The ever faithful Maddon is hoping that anything can help the Rays turn this season around.

Bobby "The Rainmaker" Henry went to work on Monday, walking around the stadium and getting a feel for the place. Maddon claims that Henry is supposed to have made it rain before, and hopes he still has some magic up his sleeve (via Bleacher Report):

"'I guess this guy made it rain in Tampa in the mid-80s at some point, so I guess he's got some supernatural powers,' Maddon said. 'If it rains in the Trop I'll be really impressed. That will be his best moment ever.'

"'We'll see what happens this time,' Henry said. 'I told Joe I'll come back Sunday.'

"And that's how the Rays-a team that prides itself on talent development and practical spending-came to rely on a medicine man for bringing about a turn in their season."

So far the blessing hasn't worked as the Rays lost to the Mariners on Monday 3-0 though they did beat the Cardinals yesterday. But Henry says all the bad spirits are gone and Tampa has to just dig in and play to win (via ESPN):

"Before Monday's game, Henry walked around the ballpark and said the Rays are ready 'to go get it.'

"Maddon has tried a variety of things over the years to liven up his team. He has brought a python, penguins and a magician into the clubhouse in the past."

P.S. while the 77 year-old Henry didn't bring an automatic win or make it magically rain inside a dome, it did start raining outside shortly after he left.
