Robert Rodriguez king maker Antonia Banderas and his plastic surgery spokeswoman wife Melanie Griffith are ending their marriage in divorce after 18 years together. The Crazy in Alabama star split with the Desperado bad-boy amidst rumors that Melanie's husband was cheating with every pliable woman in Europe. The couple haven't commented publicly on any of the accusation the Banderas is a womanizer, but word has it that Griffith is getting the tattoo of her husband's name removed from her arm. It's not enough to leave with a cut of his net worth. Melanie wants all the reminders of her life with Antonia cut away.
After almost two decades together Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas are giving up on their marriage.
Despite having been surrounded by rumors that Antonio had been stepping out for years--sleeping with women behind Mel's back--but there wasn't even the slightest hint of acrimony in their official statement announcing their separation (via Star):
"We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost [twenty-year] marriage, in a loving and friendly manner."
According to reports by TMZ, things are hardly as cool behind-the-scenes as they appear on the surface.
The gossip mongers have reportedly learned that Melanie is bitter enough to insist that people advert their eyes from her tattoo of Antonio's name on her arm, at least until she can do something about it:
"Melanie Griffith has a problem...she's divorcing the husband whose name is emblazoned on her arm and she wants it removed...which takes time, so Melanie has now figured out a shortcut.
"Antonio Banderas' soon-to-be ex-wife is sitting for photos right now in NYC
"Sources connected with the shoot [say]...Melanie has laid down the law--Antonio MUST be Photoshopped out."
If only all the painful memories could be so easily airbrushed away.
