Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla to Succeed Andris Nelsons at Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

After months of speculation it's been announced that Ms. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will succeed Andris Nelsons as music director of the world-renowned Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In effect for a three-year period starting September 2016, the 29-year-old conductor continues the BSO's pursuit in finding new and aspiring talent.

    Next season will mark the end of an era for the New York Philharmonic as it's been announced that Alan Gilbert will step down from his post with the company to make way for Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden. The season will mark the N.Y. Phil's 175th anniversary and will showcase pieces from Tchaikovsky and Dvorak.

    74-year-old Chicago Symphony Orchestra music director, Riccardo Muti, could not have been more confident going into last week's concerts in South Korea -- predicting that the attendees at the Seoul Arts Center would not soon forget the CSO's performance there. It seems that that hubris might have led to his having to cancel his upcoming February residency back in the Windy City. While the shows went off without a hitch, a minor accident between the final January 29 concert and Muti's return home led to his needing an emergency hip operation and some time off.
