'Off-Broadway Hit 'Hamilton' Moving to Broadway: Jonathan Groff Joins Cast
'Hamilton,' the off-Broadway musical about rapping founding fathers which recently opened to rave reviews, will be moving to the Great White Way this summer. Even bigger news: Broadway sweetheart Jonathan Groff will take over the role of King George III from Brian D'Arcy James in the Broadway production. With lyrics, music and book all done by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Public Theater production opened Feb. 17 to some of the best reviews in years. There was little doubt that the play would make it to Broadway, but many were surprised at how quickly it got there. 'Hamilton' is already an early frontrunner in the 2016 Tony Awards race. Groff, known for his work in 'Spring Awakening' and the television show 'Glee,' will take the stage as King George III after James leaves to star in the Broadway production of 'Something Rotten.' -
'Rumors Fly Around 'SpongeBob SquarePants' Broadway Musical Announced by Nickelodeon
Everyone’s favorite sponge may be heading to the Great White Way. Nickelodeon has confirmed to 'Entertainment Weekly' that a 'SpongeBob SquarePants' musical is currently in the works. Though the show location has not been announced, it is rumored that Nickelodeon is hoping for a Broadway run. The show is said to feature a mixture of classical and contemporary music, with music from Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Lady Antebellum and John Legend for the score. The production is set to be directed by Tina Landau, who is currently directing the off-broadway show 'Big Love.'
