Donald Sterling could be the most disgraced owner to exist in the history of the NBA. He asserted himself as an owner that would do whatever it took to ensure the Clippers success. Instead, a recording of Donald's blatant racism surfaced and a team scandal ensued. Now, reports have surfaced that Sterling backed out of a charity event in the hood, which was meant to make amends.
Before the disastrous racism scandal, Donald was a good provider for the Los Angeles basketball team. He coughed up ridiculous amounts of funds to ensure high amounts of press and attention. Also, he was known to throw huge celebrations for the team.
Unfortunately, this facade all came crashing down, hard. According to ESPN, Donald Sterling changed the Clippers forever:
"After the infamous, recording aired of Sterling making racist remarks to his former mistress, V. Stiviano, NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned him for life. It was a break that would alter the NBA and the Clippers forever, but it would not be a clean one. Eighty-year-old Sterling was never going to go quietly. The franchise would have to depose its tyrant first..."
Now, Sterling seems to have accepted the loss but is still trying to salvage his reputation. He was supposed to dress up as Santa in a charity event in the Projects. However, according to TMZ Sports, Sterling's previous remarks haven't left people with the best impression:
"Donald Sterling pulled out of a charity toy drive in Watts Saturday night ... because his security team feared for his safety in the hood with racial tensions running so high across the country. Sterling was scheduled [for Chrismukkah Soiree 'Party in the Projects.' But a rep for the ex-owner of the Clippers tells us he abruptly canceled after we posted the story...his security team was worried too many people knew where he was going to be -- and considering his track record with the black community ... things could go south quickly."
