CM Punk, formally of WWE fame, could be the most talked about UFC fighter at this time, and he hasn't even had a fight yet. Rumors of who Punk will take on in his first bought are flying in every direction. In one interview, Punk said he would take on any opponent. However, others suggest that CM might be above some fighters, like ex-power ranger Jason David Frank.
Since Punk announced his transition into real fighting at UFC, he has received a lot of criticism.
Michael Bisping wants to fight him, Jon Jones poked fun, Nick Diaz has shown blatant disrespect and Matt Brown called him stupid. Even with such intense scrutiny, CM is keeping his head held high and his dignity intact.
Still, CM's arrogant WWE persona has, somewhat, carried over into the UFC. According to Fightland, Punk announced he would fight anyone, if the conditions were right:
"In an interview...Punk said he would fight anyone if he had the proper amount of time to prepare for that bout. You might even be surprised as to how bold he got with his answer... 'Would I fight Nate Diaz?...I would fight anybody given the proper time to prepare for it. Would that be a wise decision at this juncture in my career? Probably not. But I would also fight Anderson Silva tomorrow if you paid me the correct amount of money to do so.'"
However, looking back on that statement, "anyone" didn't include less well-known fighters. Reported on by TMZ Sports, Punk laughed about former power ranger Jason David Frank:
"CM Punk could choose ANY opponent for his UFC debut ... but it almost certainly won't be the Green Power Ranger -- not based on CM's reaction to the guy's name, anyway. [He commented on] how training is going for his first bout in the Octagon. CM wouldn't name names yet as far as his first opponent -- looks like he's enjoying the speculation. [CM laughed about] Jason David Frank -- a former Power Ranger whose been calling out Punk. He's clearly not impressed."
