Avengers 2 is just a few months away, and that means that Robert Downey Jr’s contract with Marvel is almost up. The Tony Stark/Iron Man actor, who is partly responsible for building the MCU, is contracted for Avengers 3 and that is it. However, RDJ opted to join Chris Evans in Captain America 3: Civil War. Now, RDJ is opening up about why he signed on for the extra films, and it has nothing to do with expanding his already impressive net worth. Downey also recently teased returning for Iron Man 4 via a Facebook post.
Robert Downey Jr recently spoke to Empire Magazine about how he got involved in Captain America 3: Civil War despite not being contracted for the film (via Screen Rant):
“They said to me, ‘If we have you, we can do this, or Cap 3 has to be something else. It’s nice to feel needed. And at this point it’s about helping each other, too. I look at it as a competition and I go, ‘Wow, maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along.”
Robert Downey Jr recently teased that he might be back for Iron man 4 on Facebook. RDJ sparked the rumors when he posted pictures of the last three arch reactors and making reference to the fact that he had his heart fixed in the third film:
“So...would the next one just be a shot of my chest hair?”
Downey prevoulsy opened up Entertainment Weekly about possibly returning for Iron Man 4:
“It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree,” Downey said. “When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement. Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it?”
