NYC Spared Disaster: Mayor Bill de Blasio Addresses Criticism of Overaction After Blizzard Shut Down

New York City was spared what could have been a crippling blizzard. The city was projected to receive over 2ft of snow late Monday night, early Tuesday. In preparation, travel bans were put into effect and the city was virtually shut down. Now Mayor Bill de Blasio is addressing criticism the city went too far.

Earlier Tuesday morning, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke with CNN about dodging a bullet:

“This is a situation where the storm moved, thank God,and it saved New York City and a lot of other places from a very difficult few days. But in the end we had to be prepared for what our neighbors, just a little bit to the east, are now actually experiencing.”

Mayor de Blasio went on to address criticisms that the city went overboard:

“Better safe than sorry. We had a conscious from the meteorologist across the board that this thing was going to be easily 2ft. That’s what we were hearing until late into yesterday, it was still being projected to be close to 2ft, 2ft of snow would have paralyzed this city. So we did what was necessary to keep people safe.”
