Anne Hathaway to Fight Aliens in Sci-Fi Comedy Film ‘The Shower’

Anne Hathaway has been rumored to be interested in bringing the script Shower before the cameras. Described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a female-centric sci-fi action comedy that made last year's Blacklist, the annual listing of best not-yet made screenplays in Hollywood." Hathaway, from all indications, will produce the film alongside her husband Adam Shulman, Andrew Lauren, son of clothing guru Ralph Lauren, and DJ Guggenheim.

The project is in the packaging phase according to the Hollywood Reporter's online website. They quote Hathaway about the script Schaeffer has turned out, "Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters. I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen."

The plot of the film, according to Variety Online, goes like this, "The story starts at a baby shower that's disrupted when a meteor turns men into blood-hungry aliens, forcing women to band together to save the world." It may sound a bit out there for an Anne Hathaway film but the actress is well familiar with Jac Schaeffer's work. He wrote and directed her in her 2009 feature film TiMER.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that this project is a step towards larger, more mainstream projects for Andrew Lauren Productions. Previous films Spectacular Now and The Squid and the Whale have been smaller indie affairs. The company hired Guggenheim as head of production in April to guide the creative side of the company's transition to bigger productions.

Financing still needs to be found so no exact timeline for release is known as of yet. When the ball gets rolling faster on the project, we will let you know.
