The New York Mets head to Dodger Stadium to play their first game of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jacob deGrom pitches for the Mets, and with a ERA of 2.54, he was ranked fourth in the National League during the regular season. Keeping up a strong pitching game will be key for the Mets to win this game. According to ESPN, "DeGrom does not have a lot of experience on a big stage, but he did strike out the side on 10 pitches in the All-Star Game in July." The Mets will need to solidify their offense as the last several games of the season saw them in a bit of a hitting/scoring slump.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw as starting pitcher. With an ERA of 2.13 for the season, he's one step above deGrom in the National League at third place. This game will definitely have an intense pitching battle. One interesting thing for the Dodgers this season is they are one of the most expensive teams (salary-wise) in the country. Win or lose, this year's Dodgers "will either be the most expensive team ever to win a World Series or the most expensive team ever to flame out." Needless to say, this only puts more pressure on the team to perform well this post-season.
