Andrew Luck struggled during the 2015 season even before going down with injury. What five things must the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback fix during the upcoming NFL offseason to get back on track?
1. Not Forcing the Issue
Perhaps the biggest problem that the Colts' quarterback has is forcing the issue, which ends up in high turnover numbers. That has been a major issue for him throughout his entire career and it has to stop for him to take the next step. Indianapolis cannot afford to keep turning the football over next season and Luck has to figure out how to stop forcing the issue.
2. Becoming Even More of a Leader
There is no reason to hate on Luck for the leadership that he has shown throughout his career, but he could improve. Luck needs to keep teammates accountable and motivate his teammates on the field. That is an area that almost every quarterback in the league can improve in.
3. Learn When to Make a Play on the Ground and When to Slide
Losing Luck for the season was the beginning of the end for the Colts and it shows that he has to figure out when to make a play and when to slide. He cannot afford to keep taking big hits trying to make plays with his legs. That is one area that he has not improved since coming into the NFL and it really hurt his team towards the end of the season.
4. Focus on Accurately Placing the Deep Ball
There were times this season where Luck looked way off when throwing the football down the field. That could be partially due to the injuries that he was suffering through, but that cannot be used as an excuse. Learning how to focus on accurately placing the deep ball is an area that Luck can improve in to take a big step next season.
5. Get the Football Out and Make Faster Decisions
Finally, there has been a lot of talk about Luck needing to make quicker decisions and to get the football out quicker. That could help him not force the issue and also not try to make plays when the plays are dead. Making faster decisions is a must for Luck moving forward into next season.
