Recently, Wayne Brady left his leading role of Lola in Broadway’s 'Kinky Boots,' which was originated on Broadway by Billy Porter. Tonight the high heels are being handed over to Alan Mingo Jr. ('The Little Mermaid,' 'RENT') Mingo shouldn’t have any problems stepping into the role, having played it on the Toronto stage.
Wayne Brady is used to performing without a script. The 'Kinky Boots' star came to fame on the hit improv series 'Whose Line is it Anyway.' So 'White Rabbit Red Rabbit' shouldn’t be too far out of Brady’s league. Brady is one the many talented and brave actors tackling the Off-Broadway production of Nassim Soleimanpour’s directorless play. Nathan Lane and Whoopi Goldberg have already performed the play. The schedule for Brady and many of the remaining performers has recently been listed.
When you think of Wayne Brady you don’t tend to think about depression. The 'Whose Line' regular and 'Let’s Make a Deal' host often appears to be happy go lucky. So much so that the 'Chappelle Show' featured a sketch portraying Brady against type as a gun toting ruthless psychopath. However, the Kinky Boots star does have a bit of a dark side. Recently Brady opened up about his strugle with depression and anger.
Wayne Brady, actor/comedian best known for his "Whose Line is it Anyway" characters, will strap on a pair of high heeled red leather boots this week as he takes over for the original and current Lola, played by Billy Porter in the Tony-winning production of Kinky Boots.
