Rafael Amaya continues to recover from an alleged drug overdose, which reportedly left the actor hospitalized. But not everyone agrees that the actor struggles with substance abuse. Ex-girlfriend Ana Layevska was quick to jump to Amaya's defense, telling the media that she doesn't believe Rafael suffers from substance abuse.
Things are not going great for Rafael Amaya, the famous Latin Soap Opera star. We've heard rumors for months now that the actor may be struggling with substance abuse issues, and a number of media outlets are reporting that this is now the case.
Gossip site Hollywood Life explains that towards the end of last month, Rafeal's alleged drug addiction spiraled out of control:
"Rafael Amaya, 38, was hospitalized in an intensive care unit in Mexico City on Oct. 27, suffering from tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate), as well as reported drug intoxication. The actor, best known for his role on the telenovela, El Señor del los Cielos (on which he plays a drug lord), took to Twitter two days after the scary incident to cryptically declare he had 'come back from the dead.'"
Regardless if Mr. Amaya was on drugs or not at the time of his hospitalization, his highly-popular program has been placed on hold. While his bosses did not comment on WHY Rafael wound up in the hospital, they did confirm that the actor is taking a much needed vacation.
There is at least one person, however, who isn't buying the whole "overdose" excuse. And that person is none other than ex-girlfriend Ana Layevska.
The gorgeous actress was quick to jump to Mr. Amaya's defense. According to the Lating Times, Ana doesn't think Rafael even does drugs:
"Layevska seems convinced that the actor wouldn't do such a thing and she expressed this to the Mexican media at the red carpet premiere of Enamorándome de Abril. 'I had no idea; I just found out,' she said. 'I highly doubt Rafa would do those things,' she insisted. 'Knowing him, it's just not his style. He's not the type of person who would do those things,' the actress concluded."
