A Ballerina's Tale: The Story of Misty Copeland Comes To Home Market

IFC Films presents A Ballerina's Tale: The Story of Misty Copeland, coming to Blu-ray, DVD and digital download Feburary 2. One of the most visually sriking ballerinas to grace the stage, Misty Copeland had to overcome more than most dancers on her way to the top. She would become the first African American woman to be named principle dancer of the American Ballet Theatre. A Ballerina's Tale tells the story of the behind the scenes struggles and prejudices Copeland had to endure on her way to the top.

According to IFC Press Release, "n April 2015, Copeland (who has a massive social media and YouTube presence) was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time, which featured her on its cover. She also appeared on the cover of the September 2015 issue of Essence." She is unique among ballet stars because Copeland did not take it up until the age of 13, yet became an unmatched prodigy. Yet, along the way, strife threatened to engulf her life. At the age of 15, Copeland was the center of an ugly custody battle between her mother and the ballet teachers who served as her custodial guardians.

Through it all, Copeland emerged to be a beloved and inspirational figure. IFC's A Ballerina's Tale: The Story of Misty Copeland. She continues to thrive as the press release notes, Copeland "has become a public persona and media star as a speaker, spokeswoman, Broadway performer in On the Town featured dancer for musician Prince and reality TV star on So You Think You Can Dance. She has also written two autobiographical books, and serves as narrator of A Ballerina's Tale.

All of this and her recent recovery from a devastating injury are recounted in this beautiful DVD due to be released February 2nd from IFC.
