About Alexi Kenney and Xuan's 'Shifting Ground'

Aside from being an award-winning instrumentalist, Kenney is among the most sought-after violinists of his generation and has performed with some of the world's preeminent ensembles, like the l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

As for Xuan, he is also a filmmaker and musician on top of being an artistically inclined technology "wizard," who has shown his masterpieces in various galleries and festivals held across Berlin, Zürich, Chicago, and even Hong Kong.

"Shifting Ground" will see Kenney and Xuan combine their expertise through combining the performance of solo violin works from the 18th to 21st centuries with trailblazing art that uses projection technology.

Featured music includes works from masters of classical canon JS Bach and Nicola Matteis, alongside highlighting newer voices of classical music like Rafiq Bhatia and Angélica Negrón.

At the same time, Xuan conjures visual manifestations of immersive and imaginative soundscapes that revolve around the dichotomous concepts of fracture and repair.

This project is made possible through collaboration with the Ojai Music Festival, an annual classical and contemporary music event that, as per its website, has been "combining insatiable curiosity with unbounded creativity."

"Shifting Ground" will be among the Baryshnikov Arts Center's 2024 Spring Season roster of newly commissioned projects that employ artistry on mediums like film, dance, music, visual art, opera, and puppetry.

This new season builds upon the organization's rich history as a champion of multiple artistic disciplines and the melding of said mediums to achieve artistic freedom. These performances will all take place at the Jerome Robbins Theater at Baryshnikov Arts in NYC.

Tickets for the "Shifting Ground" experience are now selling for $35 plus a $4 fee each on the venue's official website. You can get yours now by clicking here.
