Alan Rickman, Beloved British Actor of Stage and Screen, Dies at 69 in London

One of Britain's, and perhaps the world's, most beloved acting stars, Alan Rickman, has died in London. Family and loved ones of the actor confirmed the cause of death was cancer. Known most recently for his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series, he was 69 years old.

However the list also includes, more importantly, Ennio Morricone's score for 'The Hateful Eight,' John Williams' score for 'Star Wars' and Thomas Newman's score for 'Bridge of Spies' all contending for Best Original Score; and David Lang's "Simple Song #3" competing in the Best Original Song category.

Since 'School of Rock: The Musical' made its Broadway debut, the show's success, has Webber every bit as shocked as finding diamond in the rough and breakout star, Alex Brightman, to play the lead. In fact, it would seem that Webber has had some difficulties finding a worthy Dewey Finn replacement for the West End run -- recently postponing the show's London debut until the spring of 2017.
