  • LIVESTREAM: Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä Broadcast Beethoven, Bernstein, Alejandro García Caturla from Cuba [LISTEN]

Classicalite reported back in February that Grammy-winning maestro Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra would be performing this month in Cuba at the International Cubadisco Festival. Well, it's finally here! OK, so almost... Since POTUS Barack Obama made the first steps to "normalize" America's relationship with its neighbor Cuba, the Minnesota Orchestra will indeed be the first professional U.S. band to perform in Cuba this century--make that millennium (as the last to do was the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in 1999).
  • Sting's 'The Last Ship,' Nominated for 2015 Tonys and Drama Desks, Now Docking at McKittrick Hotel?

While it may not have had a long run at Broadway's Neil Simon, Sting's 'The Last Ship' has received a well-deserved D.P. from Tony--for Best Original Score and for Best Orchestration, that is. Named Best Musical of 2014 by 'USA Today,' alas, Gordy's tale of ship-building woe-cum-triumph fell victim to a bad Broadway season, or at least the months where most musicals struggle to stay afloat. Too bad, so sad, shoulda called Robert Wyatt, maybe?
