Big Expectations For NASCAR's 2014 Rookie of the Year Chase Elliott in Upcoming Xfinity Sprint Cup at Daytona

2015's Nascar season marks a major change from Nationwide Insurance to Comcast Xfinity subsidiary as the title sponsor of the series. This change has fans on the edge of their seats, as they wonder who will be the first champion bring home a victory. One report points out that many have their eyes on racing up-and-comers Chase Elliott and Ty Dillon. Elliot gained popularity after being named 2014's Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year and taking over Jeff Gordon's #24 Chevy.

William Clyde Elliott the 3rd was born in November of 1995 in Downsville, Georgia. Elliot got his start in racing in 2010, where he placed in the top-ten in 38 of his 40 races (winning 12).

Since then, he has climbed the ladder to the upper echelon of Nascar's top racers. He even took home the title of Rookie of the year in 2014. In turn, as is pointed out in a report by Fox Sports, he, along with Ty Dillon, has a lot attention for the upcoming race at Daytona:

"In the first year under the new sponsorship, [the Xfinity race at Daytona] promises to be memorable. Chase Elliott and Ty Dillon have been hot this offseason due to their Sprint Cup aspirations. Elliott is locked in to the No. 24 machine with Hendrick after this season. Oh, and he was the youngest Xfinity Series champion at 18 years old last year. Dillon, on the other hand, is working toward competing in his first Daytona 500 on Sunday after the lower-level race."

As most of you know, it was recently reported that Jeff Gordon would be retiring from full-time racing. So, the question arose as to who would take his spot. According to Bleacher Report, Elliot was named his predecessor even though some thought others were more deserving:

"When news broke that 2015 would be Jeff Gordon's final full-time season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, some began to speculate who would replace him in the famous No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. While Chase Elliott was officially named to that role last Thursday, some wondered if 2014 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year Kyle Larson would make [a better fit]...Elliott was called on to fill the seat in the No. 24 Chevrolet in 2016, and Larson has no problem with that."
