Tonight’s Fox’s live musical event 'The Passion' is finally here. The re-telling of the story of Jesus Christ will feature modern music on top of a story narrated by Tyler Perry. Check out the report below for a look at the event before tonight.
Fox changed the live TV musical game when they added a live audience and a studio lot to 'Grease: Live.' This weekend Fox plans to top that, with 'The Passion,' spanning various locations throughout the city on New Orleans. However, it is going to take a miracle to pull of a live musical of that scale, and that miracle is called video tape. That is right. A portion of the “live” event will be pre-taped, with actual live elements added.
This Sunday, Fox is airing their next live musical event, The Passion from New Orleans. The production, hosted by Tyler Perry is based on the annual event held in the Netherlands which re-tells the story of the Christ death and resurrection in a different city with different pop songs each year: This year’s cast includes Jencarlos Canela as Jesus Christ and American Idol alum Chris Daughtry as Judas Iscariot.
The cast for Fox’s, upcoming live musical event, 'Rocky Horror: Live' is now complete, if you don’t include Ralph and Betty Hapschatt. It was recently announced that “Biscuit” singer Ivy Levan will open and close out the show as The Usherette. Levan joins an already star studded cast which include 'Orange is the New Black' star Laverne Cox as Frank N Furter and original West End/Broadway/Picture Show Frank actor Tim Curry as the Narrator.

The book for the musical will be written by Terrence McNally ('It’s Only A Play', 'Catch Me if You Can') with music by Stephen Flaherty and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Tony Award winner B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Law & Order: SVU, OZ) is returning to television next week in Fox’s hit Batman prequel Gotham. Wong will be portraying the classic Batman villain, Dr Hugo Strange, as part of the 'Wrath of the Villain's' storyline. In the comics, Hugo Strange is a mad scientist obsessed with Batman, who even takes to dressing as the caped crusader in an almost fetish type manner.
The main cast Fox’s upcoming 'Rocky Horror Show: Live' is complete. Recently, Christina Milian ('Grandfathered') was cast as Magenta. Milian seems to be getting along with her new cast mates, as shown in a picture she posted on Twitter of the cast celebrating Victoria Justice’s 23 birthday.
There is no doubt about it. Fox’s 'Grease: Live' was a knockout success. Even NBC liked the production. Using multiple studios stretching acres of lot and a live audience, Fox managed to take the live musical trend in a whole direction. The main cast for Fox’s The Passion is almost complete. Grammy Award winning singer, Seal, is joining the upcoming live Palm Sunday production of the musical retelling of the story of Christ. Seal will be playing Pontius Pilate.
Hot on the heels of Fox’s ultra successful production of Grease Live comes The Passion. The musical story of Christ set in modern day New Orleans will make use of the actually city as the backdrop for the production. The Passion will be hosted by Tyler Perry and performed on Palm Sunday.
'Grease Live’s' already impressive rating has gotten even higher. The show initial earned a whopping 12.2 million viewers. Now the event has now jumped up to 14.6 with DVR, Video on Demand, Hulu Plus and Fox on Demand viewing added in.
