NBC’s Robert Greenblatt Drafts ‘Hairspray’ Vet Harvey Fierstein to Write Live Event Musical

The premiere date for NBC’s Live adaptation of 'Hairspray' was announced for December 7. However, there is even bigger news for all you hair-heads out there. (That is what Hairspray super fans are called, right?) 'Hairspray' vet Harvey Fierstein has been drafted to write the adaptation of the live musical event. Fierstein won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for originating the role of Edna Turnblad on Broadway.   • Sony Masterworks Releasing Live Recording of ‘Kinky Boots’ on The West End

    Sony Masterworks will be producing a live recording of 'Kinky Boots' from the London's Adelphi Theatre. Kinky Boots originated in Chicago in 2012 and landed on on Broadway in 2013 winning six Tony Awards. The orginal cast started Stark Sands as Charlie Price and Billy Porter as Lola/ Simon. Famed rocker Cyndi Lauper wrote the music for the show with actor/writer Harvey Fierstein ('Hairspray') provided the book. The current West End production stars Killian Donnelly as Charlie and Matt Henry as Lola.

    It looks like Forest Whitaker’s Broadway debut is not going to be a long one. Originally scheduled to run till June 12, the revival of Eugene O'Neill's 'Hughie' will close later this month after only 55 performances which preview performances. The early closure is reportedly due to lack of advanced ticket sales, despite positive reviews.
